In the past 5 years or so, hardcore heavyweights "Hatebreed" have exploded into near mainstream metal popularity with releases such as "The Rise Of Brutality" and "Supremacy", thrusting them into almost every major metal festival and bill, rightfully so. They are a hard working blue- collar band that built everything they have from the ground up with no compromises in between. I can remember seeing Hatebreed opening up as local support for almost every show that came to Massachusets and Connecticut for several years. Many nights, they stole the show from the headlining act with their live energy and raw performances, and they have not changed a bit after 15 years.
In May of 09, Hatebreed made it official that they where going to do a B-market tour in support of therir recent cover album "For The Lions", and, on August 10th, they came to the Aggie Theatre in the sleepy town of Ft. Collins, CO for the first time in nearly four years. The venue opened up at 6:00. The first band on the bill, "Toxic Holocaust" warmed-up the crowd with there variation of post-punk thrash followed by a phenomenal performance by "Dying Fetus". Unfortunatly, we missed "Winds Of Plague" and most of "Chimaira's" set after we deicided to grab a bite to eat, but by the time we got back the crowd was in a frenzy. As "Chimaira" left the stage in between set changes, the amped up crowd showed anticipation by chanting HATEBREED, HATEBREED! As the lights went down, the crowd roared as Hatebreed took to the stage to dominate.
Opening with "Destroy Everything", it was apparent that Hatebreed was at the top of their game, an explosive ball of energy. Vocalist Jamey Jasta screamed the night away with non-stop running around left to right, jumping up and down, and barely stopping for a second. This Hatebreed tour also saw the return of original guitarist Wayne Lozinak, after long-time member Sean Martin stepped out in early 09, and fit in as if he never left. Hatebreed sounded tight, and, as always, played as a solid unit. The crowd was nearly as loud as the PA when Jasta demanded audience participation for almost every other chorus, and the pit was near violent from front to back. Hatebreed played a slew of songs such as "This Is Now", "Live For This", "Before Dishonor", "Perseverance", "The Most Truth", "Straight to Your Face" and a few covers off "For The Lions", such as Slayer's "Ghosts Of War" and Black Flag's "Thirsty Miserable".
Out of the thirty plus time I have seen "Hatebreed", this was a huge highlight and they always live up to expectation. "Hatebreed" will be issuing their 5th studio album on September 29th simply entitled "Hatebreed" with a tour to follow.
